What are Amazon listing errors?
When you submit a product to Amazon (via Seller Central, a flat file or the SP-API), Amazon validates every field against the category's schema. Any mismatch — a missing required attribute, an invalid GTIN, a value outside the allowed list — returns an error code and the product is blocked or suppressed.
Definition
An Amazon listing error is a machine-generated rejection that stops a SKU from being published or keeps it from appearing in search until the underlying data is fixed.
The most common error codes
Error 8541 / 8542 — Product ID mismatch
Your UPC/EAN already maps to a different ASIN, or the title/brand you submitted conflicts with the existing catalog record. This is the single most frequent blocker for resellers and dropshippers.
Error 5665 — Brand name not approved
The brand value is missing, misspelled or not registered. Amazon requires an exact brand match or a Brand Registry approval.
Error 99001 — Missing required attribute
A required field for the category (e.g. material, size, color, battery information) is empty. Requirements vary by category and change several times a year.
- Error 8058: Invalid value for a restricted attribute
- Error 90057: Image does not meet requirements
- Error 6039: Category node (browse node) is invalid or deprecated
Why listing errors matter for revenue
Every blocked SKU is inventory you cannot sell. Across a 10,000-SKU catalog, a 30% error rate means 3,000 products with zero visibility — and marketplace teams typically spend hours per week resolving errors one by one.
Watch out
Suppressed listings do not always show as errors in your inventory report. Check the Listing Quality dashboard and Fix Your Products view regularly.
How to fix Amazon listing errors at scale
- Audit your catalog against the current category schema before submitting.
- Enrich missing attributes from trusted product data instead of guessing.
- Validate identifiers (GTIN/EAN/UPC) against GS1 before upload.
- Automate the fix loop: rejection → enrichment → resubmission.
Synaps automates this entire loop: it audits each SKU against Amazon's live requirements, fills the missing fields with AI, validates the result and republishes — turning blocked listings into live ones without manual work.
